What's so special about Beeswax ?
Beeswax is the framework within a beehive, as we all know. Especially when nectar is plentiful (springtime), worker bees secret beeswax flakes from their abdomens and form it into a regular latticework of hexagonal cells. Some of this wax is retrieved and purified by the beekeeper in the honey collection process.
Beeswax is water repellant, appears solid at room temperature and blends easily with oils. When formulated into a hand salve, beeswax seals in moisture adding to the soothing properties of the oils.
Since beeswax is water repellant, it provides the same protective finish when applied to unvarnished wood. The oils penetrate into the wood surface. At the same time, the beeswax provides a slight lustre to the finish and adds an extra water repellant layer.
